There are two opposing narratives about Osama Bin Laden. One is that he is an evil terrorist, who darkly manipulates invisible minions around the world and is responsible for the deaths of thousands. The other is that he is a martyr for Islam, fighting the hegemony of Western decadence.
We don’t know his birthdate. It is said to be March 10, 1957, which would give a Pisces Sun, of course. But I’m not even going to go there since the data is just too dirty. What I am sure of though, is that Bin Laden is a perfect exemplar of the dark side of the Neptune archetype.
Neptune is the planet of illusiion. It creates a fog wherever it goes. It represents things that are ungraspable, numinous, untouchable, immaterial. As an outer planet, it tells us about mass psychology. It is the planet of sacrifice and martyrdom. Neptune is also a spiritual leader – for good or ill.
As an enemy, Neptune is the one you cannot see, he turns up when you least expect, he slithers away when you think you have caught him, he has a mysterious influence on other people, he hypnotises them. And just when you think you’ve finally nailed him, he leaves the material world entirely and transforms himself into a legend.
Neptune has just moved into Pisces (the sign of the sea), its astrological home. Bin Laden has been taken by ocean. The symbolism of his disturbingly strange burial at sea says it all.
