Venus in Aries: Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen — Yashmak

The late Alexander McQueen said that he wanted people to feel afraid of the women who wore his clothes.

His shows were legendary: shocking, emotional, Gothic, visceral — absolutely exquisite. In 1995’s The Birds — inspired by Hithcock’s movie — models stumbled down the catwalk, dresses torn and tire-marked as if they’d been run over. In 1999’s No. 13, the finale is a model being spray-painted by robots. The violence and the vulnerability (Pluto opposite Moon, Venus in Aries) were more or less explicit in every show.

“People find my things sometimes aggressive. But I don’t see it as aggressive. I see it as romantic, dealing with a dark side of personality”

from astrodatabank. There’s a lot to get your teeth into with this chart. The New Moon in Pisces: imaginative, vulnerable, honest, NN at 0° Aries!

This is Venus in Aries, a sign of war and innocence, blood and virgins. Venus is transformed into warrior and roadkill, killer clown or post-apocalyptic queen. McQueen changed fashion, pioneering an extraordinarily personal vision. His shows and clothes are an exploration of himself. Venus leads the huge stellium in Aries and Pisces that dominates the chart, and receives a perfect trine from imaginative Neptune in Scorpio, where that god is king of the deep.

Sometimes the clothes are armour, sometimes they appear to be instruments of torture, but somehow they empower the wearer. McQueen transmogrifies abuse into art. By wearing the art, the victim takes the power away from the abuser.

I have included Lilith in this chart, because she is so obviously key to McQueen’s art — and there she is the outcast woman strutting down the catwalk over and over again in his shows — survivor, tempter, wild woman… Look at Lilith in his chart, in Cancer, the sign of the mother at 0° and exactly on the bendings of the chart — midway between the North and South Node, commanding McQueen’s destiny.

This is the Widows of Culloden show (2006): Intensely romantic and sad. Skip to the finale if you can’t watch the whole thing.

Really, the clothes tell us all we need to know about Venus in Aries (fashion pioneer), including the fact that they are beautifully cut. Aries is associated with sharp implements, including scissors, via the rulership of Mars.

“I want to be the purveyor of a certain silhouette or a way of cutting, so that when I’m dead and gone people will know that the twenty-first century was started by Alexander McQueen.” — Yes, NN at 0°Aries.

Wonderful post, I’m loving these explorations of Lilith and adore his fashion sense. Lilith hasn’t actually showed up on the chart Christina, unless I’m really having a ;moment’.

  2. jassi says:

Gigi Hadid Vogue Arabia Cover March 2017, I noticed relates to the transit of Venus in Aries. Doesn’t it?

    • Christina says:

I had not picked up on that story, so thanks for pointing it out. On the one hand, it is a storm in a teacup — on the other it ties in with the whole hijab story which I think relates to Uranus in Aries & therefore, as you say, this transit of Venus.

Aries rules the head…. & I think that’s relevant too.

  3. Isy says:

You make me see the world differently. I can’t always say how. I just adore the experience.
